Cheeky Foods

We’ve all got them!

For me: squiggles, caramel slice, lindt truffles, toast!, caramilk!, warm croissants, donuts, most South Island cab savs, steak and cheese pie when I’m hungover……the list definitely goes on! I call them cheeky foods, because they’re not necessarily bad or naughty or not-optimal or whatever. Everything in moderation!
Eat them! That’s okay! But just think:

Eat them after a nutritious main meal! Not because you’ve ‘earned’ it, but because then you’re less likely to binge eat (because you won’t be snacking), you’ve met your nutritional needs and you’re likely already full!

Avoid emotional eating These foods shouldn’t be consumed because you feel sorry for yourself, you feel tired or you just can’t be bothered to make anything. Eat these foods because they are delicious and you’re only eating them because you actually enjoy every single bite and all the flavours!

Your next meal is another nutrient-dense meal! You deserve quality food and your body thrives on high-quality meals! Don’t cut yourself short!

Restrict how many you put in the shopping basket If it never makes it to your pantry, you’re 100% less likely to be tempted!

As I’ve said this to many clients in the past, if we were all elite athletes, then these tips wouldn’t apply. However, eating in moderation with guidelines, really helps to prevent binge eating, which can be detrimental to our motivation.
